FAO has delivered modern agricultural machinery to residents of remote areas of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The delivery is designed to support household farming and increase labor productivity in rural areas.
In the “Yesim” mahalla of Karauzyak district, five households received two-wheel tractors designed to speed up land preparation, facilitate sowing operations, and improve the management of household farms.
The equipment was provided under the programme on assessing the impact of food systems on land use and restoration (FOLUR – Uzbekistan). The project is financed by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.
It is noted that the use of two-wheel tractors significantly facilitates soil cultivation, including plowing, harrowing, and furrow formation, reducing the physical workload on rural populations and contributing to increased agricultural production.
According to Aziz Nurbekov, National Coordinator of the FOLUR – Uzbekistan project, the provision of agricultural machinery is intended to support sustainable growth in rural incomes, strengthen food self-sufficiency, and enhance resilience to climate change.
In Karakalpakstan, the project is also focused on preventing ecosystem degradation, promoting the rational use of land and water resources, and introducing resource-efficient agricultural practices.
