Tashkent hosted a workshop devoted to the observance of human rights in business and the prevention of human trafficking in supply chains.
The event was organized by the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by representatives of government agencies, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General’s Office, relevant ministries and agencies, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, as well as international human rights experts and staff of diplomatic missions accredited in Uzbekistan.
The event aims to raise awareness among business representatives, government agencies, and human rights institutions about the implementation of “Human Rights Due Diligence” and to share international experience in combating human trafficking and labor exploitation.
For two days, participants discussed international standards and national obligations in business and human rights, the Draft National Action Plan of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and practical aspects of human rights observance in corporate activities and public procurement.
It should be noted that this workshop continued a series of OSCE events aimed at promoting the Guiding Principles of Entrepreneurship in the context of UN Human Rights, as well as supporting the Republic of Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop and implement a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights.
Following the event, participants developed recommendations for further improving national mechanisms for the observance of human rights in the business environment and proposed measures to implement the National Action Plan effectively.
