The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, together with UN Women and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, hosted a special event under the slogan “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment”.

Timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of establishing International Women’s Day, the forum provided a platform to discuss the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, including strengthening intergenerational dialogue on gender equality.

During the interactive dialogue, participants emphasized the importance of intensifying joint efforts to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women, increase their participation in governance, improve access to education, and combat domestic violence.

The Uzbekistan delegation provided a detailed overview of extensive reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in gender equality. It was noted that legislative quotas have led to women representing 38% of the parliament and occupying 35% of leadership positions in state institutions in Uzbekistan.

Special emphasis was placed on ensuring free access to education for girls and women, which remains one of Uzbekistan’s state policy priorities. The government continues actively enhancing women’s socio-political roles in the country.

Following the event, representatives from Uzbekistan reaffirmed their commitment to further promoting gender equality principles and creating conditions in which women’s voices are heard at all levels of decision-making.
