The Registan is lively at any time of the year, day or night.
– Due to its unique architectural monuments, the Registan has become a visiting card not only of Samarkand, but of our entire country, – says Honkul Samarov, Director of the Registan Complex in Samarkand. – Millions of people come here yearly to admire its beauty and grandeur, touch its multi-layered walls, and learn its historical mystery. And we must effectively use this for the development of tourism.
Previously, the complex worked only during the day. Tourists were not allowed at night. Thanks to the efforts to turn tourism into the economy’s primary driver, many innovations have been introduced recently, and orders have been changed. In particular, according to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On additional measures for the effective use and development of the tourist potential of Samarkand region” of September 30, 2019, working hours in the Registan complex from March to November are set from 7:00 to 24:00. That is, everyone who comes here, whether he is a local tourist or a foreigner, can admire the sights for 24 hours.

Also, by order of tourist organizations, a 3D laser show program and musical show programs are demonstrated for tourists at night. After the Chorsu Trade Building was transferred to the balance of the Directorate of the Registan Ensemble, a permanent exhibition hall was also organized here. For meaningful leisure activities for tourists, the Samarkand regional branch of the State Philharmonic of Uzbekistan demonstrates joint folklore concert programs. For tourists with disabilities in the complex, special ramps and modern bathrooms are organized. To provide attention to each tourist a local pilgrim, separate rooms are allocated. An audio guide system has been launched in nine languages – Uzbek, Russian, English, French, Spanish, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Italian.
Taking into account the increased interest of local and foreign tourists in the courtyard of the Mirzo Ulugbek Madrasah, the Institute of Astronomy named after Mirzo Ulugbek of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan placed a sundial on a marble stand. In the Mirzo Ulugbek Madrasah, an exposition “History of Education in Samarkand” was opened. In the Sherdor Madrasah, you can see the cell of a student of the 19th century, a photographic exposition of rare photographs of the past. In the Tilla-Qori Madrasah, there is an exposition of products created by artisans.
Currently, electronic turnstiles have been installed at the entrance to the Registan complex, and a mechanism has been introduced for purchasing electronic tickets on the website www.registon.uz in the click application. All ongoing work aims to increase the flow of tourists and meet their needs.
