
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) has officially announced that a special Advisory Committee on Tourism has been established under the organization’s Secretariat, consisting of administrations and leading experts from the organization’s member countries.
The initiative to create the committee was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the 16th ECO Summit, held on November 9, 2023, in Tashkent.
Following several negotiations, the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan was unanimously supported by the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization, in particular, Iran, Türkiye, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
The decision to establish the committee was made at a meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the Member States of the Economic Cooperation Organization, held on December 24, 2024, in the Secretariat of this structure.
It should be noted that the city of Shakhrisabz in Kashkadarya region was awarded the status of the Tourist Capital of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in 2024. On this occasion, on April 25-26, 2024, an international forum and several cultural events were held in Shakhrisabz with the participation of heads and specialists of the tourism departments of the ECO Member States.
