Dr. Uwe Knotzer: “We believe in Uzbekistan’s long-term development and industrial potential”
Uzbekistan’s reforms, economic liberalization, and industrial upgrades are opening new prospects for foreign investors, as demonstrated by Knauf Group’s successful operations in the country since 1999.
Dr. Uwe Knotzer, General Partner at the Knauf Group, was the first guest on the “Uzbekistan – Germany: 35 Years of Development and Partnership” project, organized jointly with the Embassy of Germany in Uzbekistan. He shared his views on ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, the investment climate, and future opportunities for industrial collaboration with Germany.
– In recent years, Uzbekistan has made notable progress. The nation is more open to international collaboration, investing in industry and infrastructure, and fostering a conducive environment for long-term investments.
We are proud to contribute not only to the development of the construction materials industry but also to vocational education, technology transfer, and the introduction of high-quality standards.
One project that deserves special attention is our work in Bukhara region. Starting in 2009 with the launch of dry gypsum mix production, we have developed it into a modern plasterboard manufacturing enterprise.
Today, Knauf operates three gypsum production facilities in Uzbekistan. Another important milestone was the launch of mineral wool production in Tashkent, which helps meet the growing demand for energy-efficient buildings.
However, people are the most important thing. We work alongside highly qualified and dedicated Uzbek specialists. Our experience shows that long-term success rests on trust, partnership, and a shared commitment to development.
From an investor’s perspective, particular recognition should be given to the reforms that promote economic openness, industrial progress, and private initiative, as well as to the expanding dialogue between government bodies and the business community.
Looking ahead, regulatory stability, fair competition, and consistent implementation of adopted decisions will enhance Uzbekistan’s attractiveness to investors. I see significant potential in the country across energy-efficient construction, vocational education, industrial digitalization, and advanced manufacturing.
Germany can provide technological solutions, engineering expertise, and industrial know-how. Uzbekistan offers a growing market and a young workforce with strong potential. I am convinced that the next stage of cooperation will be built on innovation, workforce upskilling, and long-term industrial partnership.
I sincerely congratulate the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of independence and wish your country continued success on the path to modernization and economic progress.
