The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with the Korea Environment Corporation (KECO), has signed a new project to construct sustainable waste disposal facilities in the country. The project seeks to improve environmental conditions at landfill sites, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by collecting waste gases, and generate electricity.
The implementation of this initiative will continue until December 2026, with the Sharaf Rashidov District Central Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Landfill in Jizzakh region designated as the project site. Covering a total area of 25 hectares, this landfill receives 336 tons of municipal solid waste daily from Jizzakh city and Sharaf Rashidov district.
The project encompasses both waste burial and energy generation from waste resources. Additionally, as part of the cooperation agreement, Uzbekistan specialists will receive training in South Korea to ensure the continuous reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, efficient waste collection, and electricity production.
