Samarkand hosted the 57th meeting of the Interstate Council for Antimonopoly Policy of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The event was attended by heads and representatives of delegations of antimonopoly authorities of the organization’s member states.
The Chairman of the Interstate Council for Antimonopoly Policy Maxim Shaskolsky and the Chairman of the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan Khalilulla Turakhodjayev informed about the work done and the issues included in the agenda. Mr. Turakhodjayev noted the need to improve antimonopoly mechanisms and deepen international cooperation in the context of the widespread introduction of digital technologies and emphasized that this will contribute to economic growth and enhance people’s well-being.
The meeting participants reviewed the implementation of decisions taken following the results of the previous meeting, the main aspects of competition policy in the Commonwealth countries, and a report on measures to prevent offenses. Initiatives to develop competition policy were noted, and experiences in combating monopoly were exchanged. Noting the need to develop new approaches in the transition to a modern digital economy, the event participants pointed out the importance of international cooperation.
The issues of developing a competitive environment, protecting consumer rights, and regulating digital markets were discussed. It was noted that joint efforts of the CIS countries to build competition and create a fair market environment contribute to economic stability and progress in the region.
As part of the event, the Interstate Council for Antimonopoly Policy and the antimonopoly authorities of the CIS member states awarded a group of participants for achievements in developing competition policy, strengthening international cooperation, and effectively resolving antimonopoly issues.
