Hokim of Tashkent region Zoyir Mirzayev met with a delegation from Latvia.

The event was attended by Ģirts Jaunzems, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mārtiņš Cimermanis, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre, and other officials.

The regional Hokim welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude for support for the reforms underway in Uzbekistan and for programs implemented in cooperation with the European Union. The participants then discussed issues of cooperation in the agricultural sector, in particular, increasing the economic potential of farming enterprises.

National legislation has established the legal foundations for the development of the farming movement, increasing production efficiency in the agricultural sector, and expanding access to domestic and foreign markets. Within the framework of a three-year project financed by the European Union, the creation of a sustainable and inclusive agri-food system based on market principles is envisaged. The project, valued at more than 2 million euros, will help increase farmers’ incomes, create jobs in rural areas, and strengthen food security. It also provides for training programs in Latvia, the development of mentoring programs, and grants to support the establishment of cooperatives.

Z. Mirzayev noted that Tashkent region has strong agricultural potential and expressed readiness for active cooperation. He also emphasized that district hokimiyats, sectoral departments, farmers’ associations, and educational institutions will be involved in the cooperation.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to expand cooperation in agriculture, processing, logistics, green technologies, and vocational education.
