
As part of the Uzbekistan delegation’s visit to Moscow, Javlon Vakhabov, Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), held a meeting at the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICCA RAS).
Representing ICCA RAS at the meeting were Scientific Director Alexander Lukin, Director’s Advisor Vladimir Potapenko, Researcher at the Center for Central Asian Studies Alexandra Perminova, and Head of the Department for International Cooperation and External Relations Olga Gerasimova.
During the discussions, the participants addressed various issues to strengthen institutional partnerships. Special attention was given to prospects for joint scientific research, knowledge and experience exchange, and the organization of joint events, including conferences, seminars, and roundtables.
Noting the growing interest in the region, Mr. Lukin spoke about the establishment of the Center for Central Asian Studies at ICCA RAS in 2023, which is now the most significant research division focused on Central Asia’s development issues.
Javlon Vakhabov highlighted that the center’s creation reflects the increasing importance of Central Asia on the international stage and expressed confidence that the institute’s research will contribute to a deeper understanding of regional processes.
Following the talks, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between IICA and ICCA RAS. Both parties expressed confidence that the agreement would be a solid foundation for strengthening expert and scientific ties between Central Asian countries and Russia.
