A year ago, on March 18, the foundation for the construction of the city of New Tashkent was laid. A coordinating council and directorate have been formed to manage construction and design.

On April 3, 2024, during the holy month of Ramadan, a ceremony to launch the construction of the first facilities took place.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the event, emphasizing the historical significance of this event.

“Today, we are not just laying the foundation for the campuses of New Uzbekistan University and Tashkent State Pedagogical University, but also for the National Library, the National Theater, the International Research Center, the Museum of Literature, the Alisher Navoi School of Creativity, and the National Maqom Center. The construction of a new city begins with the abodes of knowledge and spirituality, which will serve as the cornerstone in the formation of an enlightened society”, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.

If the school is the basis of an enlightened society, then the teacher is its support. Therefore, here, first of all, a new campus of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University will be built, which will include educational buildings for 20 thousand students, a dormitory for 5 thousand places, a kindergarten for 300 places, a school for 616 places, an academic lyceum for 588 places, a modern sports complex, palace of culture, amphitheater, and other objects.

Based on the experience of universities in the top 300 world rankings, an innovative pedagogical cluster will be created at the university, ensuring the continuity of the “kindergarten – school – university” chain.

New Uzbekistan University is one of the most prestigious universities in the country, where they train specialists in engineering, management, information technology, agricultural technology, humanities, and natural sciences. A modern campus for this university will be built in the city, including education buildings for 10 thousand students, a canteen with 1,150 seats, a library and a compact museum, a sports complex, and an Olympic swimming pool. Dormitories with 2,000 student beds and housing for 286 faculty and staff will also be built.

The next project is a new complex for the National Library of Uzbekistan. This complex will have a total area of 30 thousand square meters and will provide all conditions for the proper storage of more than 10 million copies of literature and high-quality service for 1,420 readers at a time.

Theatrical art is closely connected with the people’s spirituality and youth’s education. Therefore, a majestic National Theater building will be built in New Tashkent based on international standards, providing amenities for artists and spectators. In the future, it will become a creative laboratory for all theaters in the country.

The city will also have a unique Spirituality Complex, uniting an International Research Center, a School of Creativity, a Literature Museum named after Alisher Navoi, and the National Maqom Center. The Head of state dwelled on the capabilities and significance of these complexes.

“The institutions, the foundation of which is being laid today, will serve for many years to enrich the spirituality of our people and to educate our young people as comprehensively and harmoniously developed individuals. I believe that New Tashkent will become a real center of science, education, and culture for our country and the entire region”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The President pressed a symbolic button and started the construction of structures.
