The temple is known as the home of China’s largest statue of Confucius, located in the Dacheng Hall.
The Temple of Confucius is one of the main attractions of China’s Nanjing, located in Fuzimiao district along the Qinhuai River.
The area is filled with souvenir shops, boutiques, and restaurants and includes the scenic Zhangyuan and Bailuzhou parks and the famous Zhonghua Gate.
In 1937, the temple was destroyed by the Japanese occupiers. The temple was restored only in 1984. For many years, imperial examinations were held in the temple. There was a hall with more than 20 thousand individual booths, where the examinees were closed for three days and were visited only to bring a portion of food.
