Samarkand hosted an international conference on “Afghanistan, Central Asia and Iran – Common Heritage along the Silk Roads and corridors to and from Europe”.

The conference, organized in cooperation with UNESCO, the European Union and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies, was attended by scholars, orientalists, art historians and historians, international experts not only from Central Asia, but also from Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

At the conference, representatives of international organizations and experts exchanged views on preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the region, increasing knowledge on cultural heritage of peoples of countries located on the Silk Road, effectively using new opportunities for sustainable tourism development.

At the conference, reports were heard on supporting international projects related to cultural objects, creating digital copies of manuscripts stored in world museums, studying samples of classical music, interfaith relations in the Middle Ages.

Within the framework of the event, a memorandum of cooperation on training qualified personnel was signed between the Silk Road International University of Tourism in the city of Samarkand and International Institute for Central Asian Studies.
