UNICEF has transferred equipment for cold chain to the Ministry of Health, in Tashkent. This new equipment will further improve the effective management of vaccines in the region. The equipment includes refrigerators, vaccine freezers, temperature control devices, cold bags and more.
The new vaccine warehouse allows storing about 20,000 liters of vaccines, for vaccination of 125,523 children up to one year old. Installed cold rooms maintain the temperature required for qualitative storage of vaccines, plus 2-8 degrees Celsius. To cover the increased number of children under 5 years of age with vaccination, the total storage capacity has been increased compared to the previous warehouse.
UNICEF will also assist in training staff, providing necessary manuals and instructions for operating the new equipment.
In total, UNICEF supports the Ministry of Health in equipping 21 cold chain facilities in Uzbekistan.
