A practical workshop was held as part of the Clean Energy for Buildings in Uzbekistan Project, implemented in Tashkent with the participation of the World Bank.

The event aims to explain to enterprises involved in construction, design, and energy audit as part of this project the conditions, requirements, and procedures for participating in tenders to improve energy efficiency at social facilities and what to pay attention to when preparing tender documents.

“As part of the project, express energy audits were conducted at 49 social facilities in Karakalpakstan, 44 in Tashkent region, 41 in Khorezm region, and 49 in Jizzakh region”, says Elzod Rakhmonov, Executive Director of the Intersectoral Energy Savings Fund. “Accurate information on energy efficiency issues was obtained. 5 lots were provided, and tenders for 31 buildings were announced”.

At the event, the head of the project implementation group, Yıldırım Türkel, informed about the stages of implementation and the projected results.

“Energy efficiency measures will be financed in institutions of the ministries of preschool and school education, healthcare, located in cities and rural areas”, says Mr. Yıldırım Türkel. “At each stage, the energy efficiency of social facilities will be increased. It is also planned to provide social buildings with renewable energy sources. The possibility of seasonal self-sufficiency in stable electricity and heat will be created. All measures will help ensure favorable conditions, reduce energy costs, and protect the environment”.

As noted at the event, the Board of Directors of the International Development Association (IDA), a member of the World Bank Group, decided to allocate a long-term loan of $143 million for the project. In 2023-2028, more than 800 social facilities will be modernized and reconstructed to improve energy efficiency.
