Another crucial step in building nuclear infrastructure
The IAEA Follow-Up Phase 2 Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) mission recently finished its activities at the Uzatom Agency.
The event organized on this occasion was attended by Shahzod Alirizayev, Deputy Director of the Uzatom Agency, John Haddad, head of the IAEA international expert team, and others.
During the mission, a comprehensive review was conducted on Uzbekistan’s progress in its nuclear energy development program. Over five days, international experts assessed the advancement of the country’s nuclear infrastructure, focusing on nuclear and radiation safety, power grid improvement, personnel training, stakeholder engagement, and environmental protection.
Shahzod Alirizayev, Deputy Director of the Uzatom Agency, praised the IAEA experts’ work.

Mr. Alirizayev expressed gratitude to the IAEA experts for their professional, constructive, and productive contribution during the mission. He noted that they engaged in meaningful discussions and provided valuable recommendations. He especially praised the professionalism, objectivity, and support of the mission team, highlighting that such cooperation is crucial for the successful progress of Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy development program.
The IAEA experts commended the state’s organized efforts, including technical research, energy sector investments, training initiatives for specialists, and strong public engagement.

John Haddad, head of the IAEA’s international expert team, praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop nuclear energy.
Following the mission, international experts drafted a preliminary report and submitted it to the Uzatom Agency. Once the Uzbekistan authorities and IAEA leadership approve the document, the final version will be officially published on the IAEA website and shared with the global community.
