Alexey Likhachev: Nuclear energy will become a driving force behind the development of industry and science in Uzbekistan
As part of the 6th International Industrial Exhibition “INNOPROM. Central Asia”, which opened in Tashkent, a press conference was held with the participation of Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.
During the event, Mr. Likhachev noted that strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia, especially in the field of nuclear energy, continues to develop actively. According to him, the current exhibition is particularly important because it serves as a practical expression of this cooperation.
As part of the exhibition, Rosatom showcased advanced technological solutions in nuclear energy and electric mobility. In particular, a model of an integrated nuclear power plant based on RITM-200N and VVER-1000 reactors was presented, along with modern infrastructure and technologies for electric transport.
At the press conference, it was noted that the construction of nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan will be carried out under a new model. In particular, nuclear facilities of different capacities will be built at a single site: high-capacity reactors (1000 MW) and low-capacity reactors (55 MW). This approach is intended to enhance energy stability and meet electricity demand.
“In Uzbekistan, nuclear energy should become a driving force for the development of various sectors, such as industry, science, education, and social infrastructure. The “atomic city” to be built near the plant will become a center not only for energy activities but also for promising areas such as nuclear medicine, materials science, agricultural processing, and sterilization technologies. A new generation of scientists and engineers will be formed here, contributing to the strengthening of the country’s technological independence”, said Alexey Likhachev.
At the press conference, detailed information was also provided on prospects for cooperation between Rosatom and the countries of Central Asia, ongoing major projects, and plans.
