At the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, several agreements were signed on electricity purchase with Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power based on a project for the construction of a 100 MW wind farm in Karauzak and Beruni districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The event was attended by the Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjayev, Vice President for Business Development at Acwa Power Tom Teerlynck, Department Director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Aida Sitdikova and Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia Ulugbek Maksudov.

The total cost of the project is $110 million. Its production capacity is 350 million kWh of electricity per year, which will also save 106 million cubic meters of gas.

Agreements were also signed at the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan. They include an agreement “On state support” and an agreement “On the implementation of a one-time payment collected from the winner of the tender for the successful execution of the agreement on the public-private partnership”.

The project implementation will begin in 2022 and is scheduled for completion in 2023.
