The fifth meeting of the Working Commission on cooperation between Surkhandarya region and Afghanistan’s Balkh province was held in Termez.

The event was attended by the Hokim of Surkhandarya region Ulugbek Qosimov and members of the delegation led by the Governor of Balkh province Mohammad Yousuf Wafa.

At the meeting, the Afghan delegation highly praised the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the neighboring state, supporting its socio-economic development, and drawing the international community’s attention to humanitarian issues.

At the meeting, the parties noted the consistent development of friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, particularly cooperation between Surkhandarya region and Balkh province. Issues of expanding cooperation in the agricultural, trade and economic, investment, cultural and educational, humanitarian, and transport and logistics sectors, as well as increasing the volume of mutual trade and improving the infrastructure of border crossing points, were discussed.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to strengthen bilateral relations through the effective use of the opportunities of the Free Trade Zone “International Trade Center ‘Termez’”.
