
Umid Bekmuhammad, a senior researcher at the Khorezm Mamun Academy, PhD in Historical Sciences, co-authored the monograph “The Khanate of Khiva in the Colonial Period of Russia 1873-1917” with Sadoqat Matkarimova, PhD in Historical Sciences.
According to the Academy of Sciences, the monograph examines the period of the seizure of the Khiva Khanate by the Russian Empire and the socio-educational and economic processes during the colonial period of the Khanate and describes efforts aimed at reforming society. Research on agriculture, industry, trade, the Jadid movement, a popular uprising against the colonialists, and the desire for freedom of the “Young Khivans” are based on archival documents of that time, periodicals, memoirs, and scientific literature.
