In the Middle Ages, Samarkand became one of the scientific centers, the center of enlightenment. The first architectural structure built by Ulugbek in the Registan complex was a madrasah erected in 1420. He invited many famous astronomers and mathematicians of that time to this madrasah.

Recently, a Monument to Mirzo Ulugbek was erected on the territory of the National School of Civil Aviation in Toulouse, France. A delegation from Samarkand region took part in the event. The monument was created by Umurzak Sharipov, an artist-sculptor from Narpay district.
