Mirzo Ulugbek is a great astronomer and mathematician, a famous scientist of his time, a statesman, grandson of the ruler of Sahibkiran Amir Temur.

Since childhood, he has shown great interest in mathematics and astronomy. The rich library collected by his father and grandfather played a great role in expanding his knowledge.

In the Middle Ages, Samarkand became one of the scientific centers, the center of enlightenment. The first architectural structure built by Ulugbek in the Registan complex was a madrasah erected in 1420. He invited many famous astronomers and mathematicians of that time to this madrasah.

The rich legacy of astronomy left by Mirzo Ulugbek is undoubtedly a source of invaluable knowledge for scientists around the world.

Recently, a Monument to Mirzo Ulugbek was erected on the territory of the National School of Civil Aviation in Toulouse, France. A delegation from Samarkand region took part in the event. The monument was created by Umurzak Sharipov, an artist-sculptor from Narpay district.
