Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia elevate tourism cooperation to a new level
Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia have reached a significant milestone by signing an agreement to enhance tourism cooperation.
The parties agreed to take measures in 2026-2027 to expand tourism exchanges and boost tourist flows between the two countries.
These issues were discussed during a meeting between Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Mohammad Abunayyan, Co-Chairman of the Saudi-Uzbek Business Council and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA.
During the discussions, priority was given to enhancing tourism collaboration between the two nations. This included increasing flight connections and creating joint tourism products to market internationally. Plans also involved organizing tourist routes under the “Umrah Plus” initiative, as well as developing summer and winter recreation, ecotourism, camping, and hunting tourism. The unique natural potential and tourism appeal of Karakalpakstan were also highlighted.

According to Mohammad Abunayyan, the number of Saudi tourists visiting Uzbekistan may increase severalfold in the coming years. He also cited Azerbaijan’s experience, noting that Uzbekistan could become one of the most attractive destinations for tourists from the Middle East.
Issues related to promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism potential on the international stage were discussed. In particular, proposals were considered for organizing a national pavilion on a popular boulevard in Riyadh, as well as for ensuring the country’s worthy participation in Expo 2030 Riyadh.
Following the meeting, an Action Plan to develop bilateral tourist flows between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for 2026-2027 was signed. The agreement will contribute not only to expanding tourism ties but also to intensifying investment cooperation, cultural exchange, and rapprochement between the peoples of the two countries.
