Uzbekistan and Malaysia expand practical cooperation in mutually beneficial areas
As part of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tanzania, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malaysia Johari bin Abdul.
It was highlighted that the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Malaysia in 2025 and the visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Uzbekistan served as a key driver in elevating bilateral relations to a new level.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening inter-parliamentary and inter-regional ties and to expanding cooperation between the business communities of the two countries. It was noted that business forums featuring representatives from Uzbekistan and Malaysia are held regularly, and that systematic cooperation has been established within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission.

Positive trends are also evident in the tourism sector. Seven direct flights operate weekly between the two countries. The number of Malaysian tourists visiting Uzbekistan is expected to reach 20,000 this year. Malaysian tourists’ growing interest in Samarkand and the Imam Bukhari heritage was particularly noted.
Considerable attention is paid to developing cultural, humanitarian, and educational ties. Malaysian Culture Days in Uzbekistan and Uzbekistan Culture Days in Malaysia are regularly held. Currently, about one thousand students from Uzbekistan are studying at various higher education institutions in Malaysia.

It was highlighted that the Center of Islamic Civilization and the Imam Bukhari Complex would serve as key platforms for fostering scientific and academic ties between scholars and researchers from both countries. In addition, prospects for expanding cooperation in the technical sector, renewable energy, and advanced technologies were discussed.
Mutual cooperation within the framework of international organizations was highly appreciated. The Senate Chairperson expressed gratitude to the Malaysian side for supporting Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization and for promoting Uzbekistan’s initiatives within the UN.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to intensify inter-parliamentary dialogue and to expand practical cooperation in mutually beneficial areas.
