Support for women in labor migration discussed in Tashkent
A seminar on supporting female labor migration governance and economic reintegration of returnees was held in Tashkent.
The event was organized by the Committee for Family and Women of the Republic of Uzbekistan in collaboration with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.
The seminar was attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, the OSCE, the International Organization for Migration, and experts in migration processes.
The participants noted that in recent years, as part of the large-scale reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, particular attention has been paid to improving the system for external labor migration, expanding employment opportunities abroad, and providing comprehensive support to labor migrants and their family members.
Particular attention was given to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women working abroad and to creating conditions for their successful social and economic adaptation upon their return home.
During the thematic sessions, participants discussed current global migration trends, the fulfillment of national commitments under international mechanisms, the promotion of gender equality, the development of international cooperation, and prospects for improving mechanisms for managing female labor migration.
The seminar also presented findings from a study on the gender dimensions of external labor migration and socio-economic reintegration in Uzbekistan. The study included more than 1,200 respondents, labor migrants and their family members, from the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm, Samarkand, Kashkadarya, Namangan, and Fergana regions. The project experts examined the dynamics of contemporary migration, analyzed the legislative and regulatory framework, and identified the main challenges and prospects associated with the reintegration of women returning from abroad.
