Preparations for the Regional Ecological Summit discussed in Astana
A delegation led by Obidjon Kudratov, First Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, participated in a high-level meeting held on the eve of the Regional Ecological Summit (RES 2026), as well as in a regional roundtable discussion on children, youth, and climate change.
The event, organized with the support of UNICEF, was attended by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Nyssanbayev, and the First Vice Minister of Education of the country, Maira Meldebekova, as well as representatives of international organizations and the expert community.
The meetings focused on preparations for the summit and on promoting the Green School regional platform, which is devoted to the development of environmentally sustainable educational systems.

It was noted that Uzbekistan has adopted a National Strategy to promote a culture of sustainable development and involve youth in the climate agenda.
During the visit, a separate meeting was held with Mr. Nyssanbayev. An initiative to preserve the saiga population, including the transfer of 500 saiga heads to Uzbekistan, was discussed. At the same time, air pollution in the border areas was considered, and the coordination of joint measures to reduce environmental risks was analyzed. In addition, the delegation members became familiar with the venues where the summit events are planned.

Issues related to the organization of the international exhibition, logistics, accreditation, and protocol were discussed. The proposal to create art installations, “Tree”, reflecting the national priorities of the countries of the region, was considered separately.
In conclusion, the parties confirmed their readiness to cooperate and agreed on priority steps to hold the summit in 2026.
