International Seminar and Training Held for Legal Professionals (+video)
An international seminar and training was held at the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development of Legal Personnel under the Ministry of Justice on the topic "Green Economy, Energy, and Investment Law within the Framework of World Trade Organization Law."
In today's global economic processes, issues of international trade, investment, energy, and environmental protection are closely intertwined. In particular, Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization presents legal professionals with important tasks, requiring a deep understanding of international trade rules and the adaptation of national legislation to new requirements.
The first session of the seminar-training discussed the fundamental principles of WTO law and their significance for Uzbekistan. Information was provided on the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, the General Agreement on Trade in Services, the Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures, most-favored-nation treatment, national treatment, and the process of Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO.
In the area of the green economy and WTO law, the balance between trade and environmental protection was analyzed, along with environmental requirements, subsidies, ecological restrictions, and the issue of "green protectionism."
Under the topic of energy law and international trade, the impact of energy resources, renewable energy sources, energy subsidies, trade restrictions, and carbon taxes on international trade was examined.
Another key focus of the seminar-training was dedicated to investment law and the World Trade Organization. Specifically, the regulation of foreign investment, disputes between investors and the state, the Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures, and the harmonization of national legislation with international requirements were discussed. The main practical significance of the training, which included foreign experts, is that it enables legal professionals to develop the knowledge and skills to evaluate contemporary legal issues in international trade and investment based on international experience, apply WTO rules in practical situations, and align national legislation with international standards.
The international seminar-training was organized in cooperation with Germany's Konrad Adenauer Foundation. At the conclusion of the event, a question-and-answer session and case study analysis were conducted with the attendees, and certificates were awarded to the participants. For a modern legal professional, knowing the rules of international trade is not just theoretical knowledge, but also the ability to correctly assess economic processes from a legal standpoint.
