Forum on green development gives new impetus to regional cooperation
The city of Ningbo in Zhejiang province of the People’s Republic of China is hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on green and sustainable development these days.
This international conference aims to ensure environmental sustainability, develop a green economy, and elevate regional cooperation to a new level.

The forum, organized by the SCO Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation jointly with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, has brought together more than 300 delegates, including officials from SCO member states, diplomats, representatives of environmental agencies, international organizations, business circles, the scientific community, and the media.

The conference, the first SCO event in China this year within the framework of people-to-people diplomacy, is expected to play an important role in deepening practical cooperation in green development and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy.
As part of the event, which includes an opening ceremony, a plenary session, and three thematic sessions, key topics under discussion are green partnerships for global sustainability, biodiversity conservation grounded in inclusive governance, and technological innovation for green transformation.

During the discussions, particular attention is paid to climate governance, reducing harmful industrial emissions, coordinating environmental policy, and developing an energy sector based on green technologies.
The Ningbo Initiative on SCO Cooperation in Sustainable Development, which is planned to be adopted after the forum, will help strengthen partnerships among member states.
Within the framework of an exhibition of children’s creative works and a thematic exposition, a shared vision of a green future is being promoted. Participants in the event will also be able to directly explore advanced regional experience in environmental development.
