Environmental cooperation with a Japanese company discussed
Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov held a meeting with representatives of the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation, led by Sosuke Ishida, Director of the Infrastructure Business Department.
During the discussions, it was highlighted that the partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan in areas such as sustainable development, adoption of modern technologies, and infrastructure projects has entered a new phase.

The participants focused on five nationwide environmental projects implemented at the President’s initiative: Yashil Makon, Clean Air, Waste-Free Territory, Bioheritage, and Ecoculture.
Representatives of Sumitomo Corporation highly praised the environmental reforms underway in Uzbekistan and reported that, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), they are successfully implementing projects in more than 20 countries worldwide.
Particular attention during the talks was given to climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and the introduction of energy-efficient technologies. The Japanese specialists presented international experience with implementing energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, including heat pump technologies for greenhouse complexes.

The Japanese side proposed implementing a pilot project in Uzbekistan to convert greenhouse farms from coal-based heating to modern, energy-efficient technologies. The parties also discussed establishing a demonstration site within the Green Territory project in Samarkand region to test energy-efficient heating systems.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue expert-level consultations, prepare a list of priority projects, and develop an implementation plan for the pilot project to modernize greenhouse farms, including its financing mechanisms.
