English and Inclusion: 28 Universities Share Experience in Tashkent
An international summit on English language education and inclusive learning was held in Tashkent, bringing together 28 universities from the United Kingdom and Central Asia. The event focused on modernising pre-service teacher education (PRESETT) and promoting inclusive education practices.
The British Council organised the summit in partnership with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education. Representatives from 10 UK and 18 Central Asian universities shared their experience and best practices.
Within the framework of the English Language and Inclusion Accelerator (2025-2026) programme, coordinated by the British Council, 11 joint partnership projects between UK and Central Asian higher education institutions were supported. The projects aimed to integrate inclusive teaching practices into teacher training programmes.
The initiatives addressed key issues such as gender equality, special educational needs and disabilities (SEN), neurodiversity, and social and digital inclusion. More than 1,000 teachers, trainee educators, and university staff from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the projects.
