Cooperation in human rights under discussion
A delegation from the Republic of Kazakhstan has arrived in Tashkent to participate in the 2026 China – Central Asia Forum on Human Rights Development.
The Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Academician Akmal Saidov, met with the delegates.
Mr. Saidov congratulated the representatives of Kazakhstan on the results of the large-scale constitutional reforms implemented in the country. In particular, the modernization of public administration, the transition to a unicameral parliament (kurultai), and the strengthening of human rights protection mechanisms in the renewed Basic Law were highly appreciated.
The Director of the National Center drew attention to the fact that the number of human rights norms in the Constitution of Uzbekistan, adopted in a new edition in 2023, has tripled. The consolidation of the Miranda Rule and the principles of Habeas Corpus in it, as well as the establishment of the constitutional status of national human rights institutions, was also noted.
According to him, cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on human rights is steadily developing.
The head of the Kazakhstan delegation, Alua Nadirkulova, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, expressed gratitude for the dialogue and satisfaction with the steady development of the partnership in the legal sphere. She noted that all the topics of the upcoming China – Central Asia 2026 Forum are relevant to Kazakhstan as well.
Issues for deepening bilateral and regional cooperation in human rights development were widely discussed. In particular, the participants discussed organizing forums and training sessions to strengthen women’s rights. The Kazakhstan delegation was also invited to participate in the 5th Samarkand Forum on Human Rights in 2026.
The meeting once again confirmed the shared desire of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to establish a single area of cooperation on human rights in Central Asia.
