Chess players from around the world will gather in Samarkand

The 46th World Chess Olympiad is scheduled to be hosted in Samarkand in September 2026.

Adham Ikromov, the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with Berik Balgabaev, Advisor to the FIDE President. The parties discussed training matters and coordinated logistics, security, and hotel arrangements.

Chess players from 200 countries are expected to participate in the main Olympic competitions, while 54 nations will compete in the 3rd FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities. Additionally, representatives from 82 countries are anticipated to attend the FIDE Congress during the International Olympiad.
