Youth voices should be considered in the decision-making process

The 12th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians continues in Samarkand.

The opening of the international forum featured addresses by the heads of the chambers of parliament, IPU President Tulia Ackson, IPU Secretary General Anda Filip, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs Felipe Paullier, and representatives of the IPU Board of Young Parliamentarians. The speakers emphasized the significance of the Samarkand Conference, organized at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, and outlined the key issues on its agenda.

Tulia Ackson noted the growing role of young people in international decision-making. It was emphasized that dialogue, exchange of experience, and cooperation among young parliamentarians from different countries contribute to developing new approaches to addressing global challenges.

Felipe Paullier emphasized that protecting the rights and freedoms of young people should be a priority for national parliaments and governments. Particular attention was given to the need to minimize the risks associated with the expansion of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

The conference brings together young parliamentarians from 58 countries and representatives of more than ten international organizations. Their discussions focus on youth participation in politics, social justice, digital security, access to quality education and to the labor market, the promotion of women’s leadership, and the role of parliaments in addressing global challenges.
