Vugar Rahimzade: Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan makes a significant contribution to the unity of the Turkic world
Deputy of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Vugar Rahimzade, emphasized in an interview with Trend News Agency that recent years have seen a significant strengthening of relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan – evolving from strategic partnership to a closer alliance.
The expert highlights that strong political trust, regular mutual visits, and agreements are crucial for the active growth of bilateral relations. He mentions that in the past five years, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has made two state visits and four working visits to Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Azerbaijan twice for state visits and seven times for working visits.
Vugar Rahimzade also emphasized that the contractual and legal framework for bilateral cooperation continues to grow. He mentioned that over 220 documents have been signed so far. The Supreme Interstate Council, established in 2023, serves as a key institutional platform for further developing strategic partnership and alliance.
The Deputy described the Treaty on Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, signed during President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Uzbekistan, as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations. He believes the document officially symbolizes the unity of the two peoples and provides a strong basis for expanding cooperation.
Mr. Rahimzade highlighted that key cooperation sectors include energy, transport, science, education, tourism, and investments. He also noted that interregional ties are strengthening, with several Uzbek and Azerbaijani cities becoming twin cities.
The expert highlighted Uzbekistan’s role in restoring Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, viewing it as a concrete example of friendship and brotherly relations. He noted that the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan not only advances their bilateral relationship but also strengthens political, economic, and transport links between Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
Vugar Rahimzade concluded that strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan also greatly enhances cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States and promotes unity among the Turkic nations.
