Uzbekistan’s IT services exports have grown almost six times over the past five years
Uzbekistan’s digital economy growth is reshaping its foreign trade. The notable rise in exports of telecommunications, computer, and information services highlights the IT sector’s emerging importance as a key source of foreign currency for the country.
The National Statistics Committee reports that Uzbekistan’s IT service exports reached $545.3 million in January-June 2026, up $61.8 million, or 12.8%, from the same period in 2025.
A year-by-year analysis distinctly illustrates the growth trend. In the first half of 2022, IT services exports were $92.6 million, increasing to $159.4 million in 2023, $281 million in 2024, and $483.4 million in 2025. By the first half of 2026, exports reached $545.3 million.
From 2022 to 2026, exports rose nearly 5.9 times, for a total increase of $452.7 million. This growth is more than just a nominal rise. It highlights the growing significance of IT services in the country’s foreign trade. The data indicate that export growth varied over the years, with some years experiencing notably higher increases.
In 2023, exports grew by almost 72 percent over 2022, and in 2024, they jumped by 76 percent compared to 2023. Strong growth continued into 2025, with exports rising nearly 72 percent from the previous year.
In 2026, the growth rate decreased to 12.8 percent. While this may seem like a slowdown at first, the base effect must be considered. With exports already at $483.4 million in the first half of 2025, maintaining such a high percentage increase in the following year becomes more challenging. Essentially, IT services exports are likely shifting from a phase of rapid growth to steadier, more stable expansion.
A major distinction between IT services exports and traditional merchandise exports is that IT services do not need physical logistics or raw materials. Services like software development, IT outsourcing, cloud solutions, technical support, and digital design can be delivered directly from Uzbekistan to international clients.
This brings multiple economic advantages to the country at the same time. It boosts foreign currency income, increases the share of high-value services, drives demand for IT professionals, creates jobs for young people, supports the growth of export markets, and raises the share of services in total foreign trade.
Specifically, developing human capital-focused IT services could give Uzbekistan a competitive edge. The $545.3 million figure indicates a positive trajectory, with sustainable growth in IT exports as a primary industry goal.
