Uzbekistan’s athletes maintain strong momentum at the Asian Games
Competitions held on September 27 at the ongoing 20th Asian Games in Japan have concluded, with Uzbekistan’s athletes winning four medals.
On the eighth day of the Asian Games, held at sports venues in Aichi and Nagoya, Uzbekistan’s athletes competed in shooting, tennis, kurash, fencing, athletics, artistic swimming, field hockey, boxing, diving, handball, and volleyball.
In the men’s +90 kg kurash event, Uzbekistan’s Shohruhkhon Bakhtiyorov won gold, while compatriot Bekmurod Oltiboyev took bronze. In the women’s -57 kg category, Ibodatkhon Agojonova defeated all her opponents to claim the Asian Games title.
Uzbekistan also won bronze in the women’s team sabre event, represented by Zaynab Dayibekova, Fernanda Herrera, Gulistan Perdebayeva and Samira Shokirova.
In the team tennis competition, Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin and Khumoyun Sultanov defeated Chinese Taipei 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.
In boxing, world champion Fazliddin Erkinboyev, competing in the -80 kg category, began his campaign against Sri Lanka’s Yazmin Mohammed. He dominated the bout and secured a first-round knockout victory.
Abdumalik Khalokov, competing in the -60 kg category, defeated the Philippines’ Junmilardo Ogayre in the quarterfinals. Jahongir Zokirov, in the +90 kg category, beat Tajikistan’s Muhammad Abroriddinov to advance to the semifinals.
Unfortunately, Nigina Uktamova and Navbakhor Khamidova lost to their opponents in their weight classes.
Following the competitions on September 27, Uzbekistan’s medals reached 38: 10 gold, 17 silver and 11 bronze. The Uzbekistan delegation ranked fourth in the overall team standings.
The top three countries in the medal standings are China (119 gold, 48 silver, and 38 bronze medals), Japan (32 gold, 62 silver, and 58 bronze), and South Korea (21 gold, 23 silver, and 39 bronze medals).
