Uzbekistan to develop 30 new tourist areas by 2030
Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, met with İlkay Çorgundağ, Director of Arup, a UK-based engineering and consulting company, to discuss the comprehensive development of promising tourism areas in Uzbekistan.
The talks focused in particular on the sustainable development of the tourism sector, the comprehensive development of areas with high tourism potential, and the creation of modern tourism infrastructure.
One key issue was the plan to develop 30 new tourism areas by 2030, based on comprehensive master plans.
Under these master plans, transport systems, urban planning solutions, hotel infrastructure, recreational facilities, and other essential infrastructure will be planned in an integrated manner.
To implement these objectives, a state institution, the Project Office for Tourism Infrastructure Development, was established under the Tourism Committee in April this year pursuant to a relevant presidential resolution. This is also paving the way for broader use of international experience in this area.
The parties also discussed opportunities for Arup to participate in projects to develop promising tourism areas in Uzbekistan. Company representatives also expressed their intention to open a representative office in Tashkent.
Following the meeting, the parties approved a proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Arup and the Project Office for Tourism Infrastructure Development under the Tourism Committee.
