Tashkent hosts a new chapter in Asian rugby cooperation
Tashkent recently became a major hub for regional rugby as representatives from Central and South Asian countries gathered for the CASA Rugby 7s Championship and a series of cooperation events under the newly established Central & South Asia Rugby Alliance (CASA).
The tournament brought together national teams from across the region and highlighted a growing effort to strengthen sporting ties, expand rugby opportunities, and encourage greater regional exchange through sport.
Speaking after the events, CASA Coordinator Anis Zaman said the alliance was formed to make rugby more accessible across Asia and to streamline cooperation among countries and teams.
According to him, CASA is not limited to national squads. School teams, youth teams, and rugby clubs are also expected to benefit from the new platform, opening the door for hundreds of teams to participate in regional competitions and development programs.
“Our vision is simple – more rugby across Central and South Asia”, Zaman noted, emphasizing that sport can unite nations and strengthen harmony in the region.
He also described rugby as a fast, dynamic, and highly engaging sport that continues to grow in popularity worldwide. Despite common stereotypes, he stressed that rugby is built on discipline, technique, and teamwork.
Although CASA is still a young initiative, regional organizers believe the alliance has already shown strong momentum. The successful events in Tashkent demonstrated growing interest in rugby and marked an important step toward building a broader sporting platform across Asia.
