Saida Mirziyoyeva discusses the region’s environmental challenges with UNEP and GEF leadership
On the sidelines of the Eighth Global Environment Facility Assembly in Samarkand, the Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva met with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Inger Andersen, and GEF Interim CEO and Director of Strategy and Operations Claude Gascon.
The parties discussed pressing environmental issues of particular importance to Central Asia, including combating desertification and land degradation, monitoring air quality, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring the rational use of natural resources.
Saida Mirziyoyeva expressed gratitude to the leadership of UNEP and the Global Environment Facility for supporting the environmental reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and for assisting in promoting practical solutions for environmental protection.
