Ruins of the rulers’ palace have been discovered in Samarkand region
On the site of the ancient Mingtepa settlement in Jomboy district, archaeologists have discovered the remains of a supposed palace complex, along with samples of ancient sculpture.
According to the Cultural Heritage Agency, the excavations were conducted by scientists from the Samarkand Archaeological Institute named after Yahyo Gulomov. The discovered complex is located in the citadel – Arch of the settlement – and dates back to the first half of the 8th century.
Mingtepa is regarded as one of the largest cities of ancient Sogd, active from the 5th to the mid-8th century. Researchers suggest that the ancient city of Kabudan, referenced in Chinese historical texts, might have been located here.
