President returns from Khiva to Urgench via the new highway
Following the open dialogue with entrepreneurs in Khiva, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the new toll road between Urgench and Khiva.
Uzbekistan is focusing on developing modern road infrastructure and enhancing the speed and safety of transport connections. The updated Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On roads”, adopted on August 5, now includes a legal framework for toll roads. Additionally, providing an alternative toll-free route for drivers is a required condition.

The new highway connecting Urgench Airport to Khiva is designed to provide safe, quick, and comfortable travel for both residents and tourists.
The project involved constructing 35 kilometers of road, one underpass tunnel, 8 overpasses, 15 bridges, and 106 drainage structures.

The trip from Urgench to Khiva currently takes 45-50 minutes via the existing road, but with the new four-lane highway, it will be shortened to 15-17 minutes.
The road can accommodate over 30,000 vehicles daily, with service facilities built to meet international standards planned along the route.
Traffic flow and the payment system will be operated through AI-driven digital solutions, allowing cars, trucks, and buses to pay tolls automatically and electronically without needing to stop.

The upper layers of the road surface use a specially modified bitumen mixture designed to withstand hot climates. The overall pavement thickness measures 87 centimeters.
The new highway will enhance travel speed and convenience between Urgench and Khiva, elevating the region’s transport infrastructure.
Thereupon, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev concluded his visit to Khorezm and departed for Tashkent.
