New international tourist town to be developed in Khiva
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on a project to develop an international tourist town in Khiva.
In recent years, the Khorezm region has focused on developing tourism infrastructure, improving service quality, and extending visitors’ stays. Over the past nine years, 280 hotels and guesthouses have been built, accommodation capacity has increased fourfold, and 11 new tourism facilities have been commissioned. Over the past five years, the number of foreign tourists has increased tenfold.

The new tourist town will blend historical heritage with contemporary urban planning. Its architecture draws from Khorezm’s long-standing city-design traditions, such as the historical layout and street network of Vazir, an ancient city that served as the first capital of the Khiva Khanate in 1511.
The complex, covering 12.3 hectares, will include hotels, a museum with historical and contemporary exhibits, restaurants serving national and international cuisine, retail facilities, and service businesses.

A significant part of the area will be dedicated to green spaces and walking alleys. The plan includes cascading fountains and internal canals. Canopies equipped with solar panels will be installed in the parking areas.
It was noted that the consistent development of Khorezm’s transport, logistics, and tourism infrastructure contributes to increased tourist flows. In this regard, creating modern tourism complexes, expanding the range of services, and increasing visitors’ length of stay in the region are important.

The new town aims to alleviate the tourist pressure on Ichan Kala and develop new routes and amenities for visitors. The project also plans to create thousands of jobs and establish green recreational zones free of vehicle traffic.
