Modern equipment for small hydropower plants to be manufactured in Andijan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a project to produce equipment for small hydropower plants being implemented in Andijan district.
The project was primarily based on the resolution by the Head of State of March 28, 2025, which focused on developing a network of micro-hydropower plants across regions. To implement this, the enterprise Andijon Jinlun Yangi Energiya is being created.
Such equipment is particularly in demand in Central Asian countries, which have extensive mountainous areas and abundant water resources. However, the region still lacks specialized enterprises that can produce it on an industrial scale. The new project is designed to meet this demand.
The rich water resources of Andijan region offer broad opportunities for the development of green energy. In particular, the steady flow of the Great Fergana Canal is favorable for building micro and small hydropower plants.
The total project cost, funded entirely through foreign investment, is $20 million. The enterprise is expected to reach full capacity in 2027. Once fully operational, it will produce 100 small hydropower plant complexes worth 70 billion UZS annually, along with equipment for micro-hydropower generation, machine tools, and electrical products.
Amid growing global demand for clean, renewable energy, small and micro hydropower plants are increasingly sought as an effective solution. Their advantages include minimal environmental impact, short construction periods, and stable electricity generation.
The project will create 200 new jobs. The enterprise plans to export its products to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, with annual exports projected to reach $3 million.
In addition, the enterprise plans to build several micro-hydropower plants in Andijan region. This will provide the population and industrial enterprises with affordable, environmentally friendly, and reliable electricity.
