Limits on water withdrawals from the Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers have been approved
According to the Ministry of Water Resources, the 95th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in Turkmenistan.
The meeting was attended by the Uzbekistan delegation led by the Minister of Water Resources Shavkat Khamrayev.
During the meeting, representatives from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan discussed the rational use of water resources in the Amudarya and Syrdarya river basins, water allocation, and the development of regional cooperation.
The meeting approved water withdrawal limits for countries in the Amudarya and Syrdarya basins for the 2026-2027 non-growing season. The process of preparing a work plan to introduce an automated water accounting system in the Syrdarya basin was also endorsed.
The parties agreed to hold the 96th meeting of the Commission in Uzbekistan. A relevant protocol was signed following the meeting.
