“Digital Future: Common Development Vectors, Challenges and Solutions”
This was the title of an international panel session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
It was attended by the Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Shermatov, as well as ministers from Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Belarus, heads of government organizations from Kyrgyzstan and Kuwait, and representatives of the International Telecommunication Union.
The participants addressed topics such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence development, and prospects for regional cooperation. They shared perspectives on Central Eurasia’s role amid globalization, geopolitical shifts, and technological advances, as well as the region’s emerging economic opportunities.

Mr. Shermatov highlighted Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts to develop its IT sector and attract international businesses. He pointed out that IT Park Uzbekistan offers benefits, including corporate tax exemptions for resident IT companies. He also invited representatives of foreign companies to establish offices in the country.
It was also observed that a major strength of Uzbekistan lies in its youth potential, with a focus on training skilled personnel who fulfill international business standards.
In 2017, just four foreign-invested companies were operating within IT Park. Today, over 70 foreign companies start operations in the country each month. This growth helps attract remote jobs and international contracts, generating high-income employment and boosting digital services exports.
Mr. Shermatov highlighted that artificial intelligence technologies should help boost incomes, enhance quality of life, and improve economic efficiency.
The event served as a key platform to showcase Uzbekistan’s expertise in artificial intelligence and digital transformation, while also fostering regional collaboration.
