Central Asia – Japan: From agreements to practical cooperation

Tashkent hosted the first Central Asia – Japan Think Tanks Forum.

The event, hosted by the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, brought together representatives of think tanks, research institutes, government agencies, and business communities from Japan, Central Asia, and Azerbaijan, along with scholars and experts.

The forum focused on developing practical mechanisms to implement the agreements reached at the first Summit of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, held in Tokyo on December 20, 2025.

Participants discussed sustainable economic development, energy security, cooperation on critical minerals, and transport and digital connectivity. They also explored opportunities to develop international transport corridors and to introduce artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.

Following the discussions, participants emphasized the need to expand expert-level contacts, promote joint research, and develop practical recommendations for implementing the agreements reached at the level of heads of state.
