Central Asia – Azerbaijan: turning political trust into practical projects
An expert-level diplomatic dialogue on “Central Asia and Azerbaijan: a new political environment based on trust and cooperation” was held at the International Institute for Central Asia in Tashkent.
Participants discussed strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, developing transport connectivity, key agreements and initiatives from high-level meetings, and prospects for their practical implementation.
Javlon Vakhabov, Director of the International Institute for Central Asia, emphasized that the new political climate that has emerged in the region since 2016 has helped restore mutual trust and good-neighborly relations. In his view, this progress must now be reinforced by strengthening economic connectivity and launching joint projects.
Rashad Mammadov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan, shared his views on relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, as well as prospects for cooperation with Central Asia. He noted that Central Asia offers considerable potential for Azerbaijan to expand cooperation.
On trade, economic, and investment cooperation, the diplomat stressed the need to expand direct contacts between business communities, develop industrial cooperation, and support joint investment projects to fully realize the existing potential.
