AZERTAC: Cooperation between Baku and Tashkent is gaining regional significance
Relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, rooted in historical friendship and brotherhood, are entering a new stage of strategic and economic partnership, supported by a high level of political trust. The signing of the Treaty on Allied Relations in 2024 was a particularly important testament to this.
Political analyst Ulviyya Zulfikar explained to AZERTAC News Agency that the parties aim to boost mutual trade to $1 billion by 2030. The Uzbekistan – Azerbaijan investment company, with an authorized capital of $500 million, will serve as a crucial instrument for funding joint projects.
The involvement of hundreds of company representatives in the Interregional Forum in Tashkent demonstrates strong interest from businesspeople of both countries in expanding cooperation. There are numerous opportunities to create joint ventures across sectors like textiles, chemicals, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and building materials, as well as for manufacturing products targeting markets in other countries.
Partnerships in the transport and logistics industry are becoming increasingly strategic. By 2025, mutual transit traffic had grown to 1.4 million tons, reflecting a broader utilization of the Middle Corridor’s potential. Specifically, processing and packaging Uzbek products in Azerbaijan, then accessing the European market, creates new opportunities for economic growth and enhances trade and economic relationships.
Cooperation in green energy also enhances bilateral relations. The emerging partnership among Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan in renewable energy development and transmission lays the foundation for connecting Central Asia’s green energy potential to the European market.
Today, the relationship between Baku and Tashkent goes beyond simple bilateral cooperation, playing a crucial role in strengthening economic and political ties between the two regions. This creates new possibilities for expanding practical collaboration within the Turkic world and boosting the region’s geo-economic potential.
