A major potato cultivation project is underway in the Kashkadarya region.
The next phase of a major project aimed at ensuring food security, introducing modern agrotechnologies, and cultivating high-quality seed potatoes has commenced in the Nishon district of the Qashqadaryo region. This was announced by the information service of the Qashqadaryo regional administration.
The planting of high-quality, elite-generation potato seeds imported from the Netherlands has commenced on a 400-hectare area in a district bordering Turkmenistan, with the participation of regional governor Murotjon Azimov, responsible officials, and labor veterans.
As was emphasized at the event, this initiative is crucial for strengthening the country's food security and supplying the domestic market with high-quality potato products and seeds. The project aims to increase yields and enhance agricultural production efficiency through the effective use of modern technologies.
On the same day, a group of industry professionals actively involved in the project's implementation was honored by the regional administration. They were presented with letters of appreciation and commemorative gifts.
The process of organizing the work in the area was also inspected. Specifically, six modern center-pivot irrigation systems manufactured by the Austrian company "BAUER" have been commissioned. It is planned to increase the number of such systems to 16 by the project's completion.
Additionally, the necessary pipelines have been laid to supply water via pumps, and a water reservoir with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters has been constructed. Work to prepare the land for planting and to establish an electricity supply is also underway.
Currently, 2,600 hectares of land have been developed in the area. The total cost of the potato cultivation project is 30 billion UZS. It is expected to create a reserve of 10,000 tons of seed potatoes.
As part of the project, work in areas such as constructing refrigerated warehouses and establishing a livestock farm will also be carried out in stages. Notably, the initiative will create 500 new permanent jobs, serving to increase the employment and income of the local population.
Experts note that combining modern irrigation technologies, high-quality seeds, and advanced agrotechnical approaches will make it possible to significantly increase the efficiency of potato cultivation in this region.
For reference: in 2022, to provide employment for the unemployed population in the Gelon, Kul, Sarchashma, Sayyod, and Hisorak mahallas of the region's Shahrisabz district, water was brought from the Tamshush River in a remote mountainous area over a distance of nearly 13 kilometers, developing over 3,000 hectares of rainfed land and establishing potato cultivation.
