Uzbekistan and Serbia: Advancing stage in high-level dialogue and diplomatic relations

Uzbekistan and Serbia established diplomatic relations on January 5, 1995, and have steadily developed them over the past 30 years on the principles of friendship and mutual respect.

Political dialogue experienced a significant boost, especially during 2025-2026. The high-level summit during the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić’s first official visit to Tashkent on October 28-29 marked a new chapter in bilateral relations. After discussions, the leaders signed a Joint Statement to enhance cooperation across political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian areas, along with several intergovernmental agreements.

To strengthen the institutional and legal foundations of diplomatic relations, the Economic Cooperation Agreement officially took effect on May 7. Additionally, the Foreign Ministries established a system of political consultations and a standing Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation to facilitate consistent coordination and dialogue.

Building on this process, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić visited Uzbekistan to discuss key issues. Overall, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit to Serbia is a historic milestone, reflecting the strong political desire to deepen bilateral relations into a mutually beneficial partnership that extends beyond the region to the global stage.
