“Spiritual Heritage of the Turkic World: Literature – A Dialogue of Eras and Generations”
The Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan Writers’ Forum on this theme was held at the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan.
The event marked the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s independence, the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress held in Baku in 1926, and the 585th anniversary of the birth of the great Uzbek poet and thinker Alisher Navoi.
The forum was organized by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent Region Hokimiyat, the writers’ unions of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.
The main events took place at School No. 34, named after Rakhmatulla Raimkulov, in Koramanas village, Bostanlyk district, Tashkent region. To celebrate the start of the new academic year, the school library was renovated, and a coworking complex was inaugurated.
During the event, the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan, the Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Interethnic Relations and Compatriots Abroad, and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation donated books to the school to enhance its library collection.
Additionally, creative meetings and an open lesson titled “Rakhmatulla Raimkulov: A Legacy Uniting Generations” took place. Abdusaid Kuchimov, a famous writer, Honored Mentor of Youth of Uzbekistan, and Director General of the Uzbekistan National News Agency, gave a lecture to students in honor of Uzbekistan’s 35th independence anniversary.
The forum events were attended by the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and People’s Writer of Uzbekistan Khayriddin Sultonov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Malik Otarbayev, Minister of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ezozkhon Karimova, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ozodbek Nazarbekov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Yeraly Tugzhanov, Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan Sirojiddin Sayyid, Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan Mereke Kulkenov, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova, as well as prominent writers, poets, scholars, and cultural figures from the two countries.
On September 3, the forum continued its activities in Tashkent, starting with a flower-laying ceremony at the Alisher Navoi monument.
The Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan organized the book exhibition “Literary Friendship – Eternal Friendship”, featuring archival materials in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First Baku Turkological Congress. The event included a session titled “Literary Dialogue between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan: Shared Heritage, Modernity, and New Horizons of Cooperation” and a roundtable discussion on “New Horizons of Literary Cooperation in the Turkic World”.
During the forum, participants discussed strengthening collaboration among writers, scholars, translators, and cultural institutions from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. They also focused on developing mutual translations, launching joint publishing projects, supporting young authors, digitizing literary heritage, and increasing creative exchanges.
During the session “Literary Dialogue between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan: Shared Heritage, Modernity, and New Horizons of Cooperation”, participants explored the historical and current connections between the two countries’ literatures, their common literary heritage, collaborative creativity, and mutual translation efforts.
The session also included a presentation of books published in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
During the forum, participants visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Tashkent.
